A PRAYER FOR PEACE WHEN LIFE SEEMS OUT OF CONTROL
Over the last few weeks we’ve taken a difficult look at life — remembering our mortality and the brevity of life, acknowledging our fears, doubts, and anxieties, and reflecting on the confusion and chaos that often accompany this earthly sojourn.
It’s hard work to lean into and we might be tempted to look away, to avert our attention. But it’s necessary work. It’s only by acknowledging these things that we can begin to work through them. But this work can also leave us feeling frustrated and at a loss for what to do, wondering where to turn.
Sometimes we find ourselves without options, feeling a total loss of control over our lives. This can leave us feeling angry, abandoned, hopeless.
Can you offer up your feelings of abandonment, anger, or hopelessness to God?
Maybe you don’t have the words to say, you don’t know where to start. Take a few minutes to listen to the song below and let the lyrics become your prayer. Sometimes it helps to borrow words from a fellow sojourner, to be reminded that we are not alone in these experiences and to help us ask for faith when we feel faithless.
It may seem awkward or counterintuitive to pray our anger or despair or doubt. But in voicing these things out loud we might just find that the God who sees, and the God who hears, and the God who walked this earth in a fleshly body just like us is waiting with open arms to comfort us in our sorrow and to bring peace in our struggle.
